Birkhill House was completed in 1858 by the renowned Scottish Baronial architect David Bryce… The current house was built over a previous dwelling which was built in 1730.
Birkhill has been the seat of the Earls of Dundee since the 18th C… The Earldom was created in 1660 for John Scrymgeour, 3rd Viscount Dudhope and Constable of Dundee.
Scrymgeours have been the Royal Standard Bearers for Scotland since the 13th Century. Sir Alexander Scrymgeour was awarded the title of Constable of Dundee by William Wallace, The Guardian of the Kingdom of Scotland, for his gallant service and Robert the Bruce made the title hereditary by Royal Charter for Alexander Scrymgeour’s son Nicholas in 1324. Nicholas fought for Bruce at the battle of Bannockburn in 1314.
Siobhan’s Trust was set up in 2020 in the name of the late Countess of Dundee. The trust runs outreach projects at Birkhill and supports partner charities. A portion of proceeds from all bookings goes to Siobhan’s Trust. For more information please visit www.siobhanstrust.com
